He lived like a man, and he fixed up machines,
He knew his own trade, every bolt, every seam.
He knew who he was, knew what honor could mean,
And that deep down a man’s got a spine made of steel.
He lived as he could, never asked for a grant,
But then right next door they decided — a plant.
And the thing that they needed was him gone for good,
Or that plant would not rise where the little man stood.
Honor is truth and conscience dictate,
Honor is something that carries its weight,
Honor is what a real man lives by,
Honor’s the right to judge
A clerk came around, said «here’s cash, take the deal,»
But he showed him a fist that was calloused and real.
He told the clerk straight: «This is my piece of ground,
This here is my shop — so cut out the blah-blah.»
But who is he next to a fat man of trade?
The dealer laid money — and hell broke away.
The mayor and the sheriff hounded him like a wolf,
And in the end they shut his workshop down for good.
Honor is truth and conscience dictate,
Honor is something that carries its weight,
Honor is what a real man lives by,
Honor’s the right to judge
He had to surrender — that’s was their filthy plan,
But he was a man, not some piss-poor sham.
The first thing he did a bulldozer he bought,
And in that old shop he was welding that ought.
Many days went on by, and May came to its end,
The gates swung wide open, the barn nearly bent,
And out to the daylight, like thunder it was —
Bulldozer in armor, with shield raised for war.
Honor is truth and conscience dictate,
Honor is something that carries its weight,
Honor is what a real man lives by,
Honor’s the right to judge
He took out the sheriff’s, he took the mayor’s house,
Everything that they owned he turned upside down.
He flattened the plant and each vehicle who dare
Try to stop him — he scorned every wall in his way.
But no, there was no victory for the heavyweight,
He knew he’d not walk out alive from his fate.
He knew all alone he could never prevail,
And put last period with bullet in his head.
Yes, the warrior fell — but his honor stayed bright,
In stories and songs he will live on for life.
We remember, we know, and we’ll teach it out loud:
If a man is honest, he cannot be bought.
Honor is truth and conscience dictate,
Honor is something that carries its weight,
Honor is what a real man lives by,
Honor’s the right to judge
Marvin! We remember you!
